The Dollar Disciple is a personal chronicle of my family’s journey to financial independence, together with some other random stuff which you will hopefully find insightful and amusing
Money is one of my favorite topics for discussion because:
- Whether we like it or not, it’s an incredibly important aspect of modern living
- Misconceptions about it are the root cause of many of society’s ills
- People don’t really like talking about it. Try asking your friends about their investments and tell me how it goes…
Within the spectrum of personal finance, my absolute favorite topic is Financial Independence. That is: having enough investment/passive income such that you don’t have to work for money if you don’t want to. I personally feel that this is an extremely important goal for anyone to work towards (and if you think about it, that’s what the traditional definition of “retirement” is).
My family has been working towards Financial Independence for a few years now and I thought it was about time to start documenting the journey. Even if no one reads it, I’d like to be able to look back and see what I was thinking and feeling as I walked the path towards the ultimate goal.
Therefore, this blog is about:
- Passive income
- Real estate investing, which is my chosen vehicle
- Personal Finance
- And above all: Financial Independence!
My sincere hope is that someone out there will benefit from our experience and take control of their financial destiny.
All a person can do is show you the path: it’s up to you to walk it.

Thank you for sharing. Not to many people in your position are so gracious. Your article was very poignant and understandable. It helped me to understand very clearly. Thank you for your help.
You’re very welcome. I hope you enjoy the site!
One other issue issue is that video games are normally serious anyway with the most important focus on mastering rather than enjoyment. Although, it comes with an entertainment element to keep your sons or daughters engaged, just about every game is frequently designed to work with a specific group of skills or course, such as numbers or scientific disciplines. Thanks for your write-up.
I assume you’re referring to my post here: Becoming a Dollar Disciple
I’ve always been more of a strategy/simulation/puzzle gamer. I tend not to play those highly competitive games since I don’t have a ton of time to master them, as you point out. A lot of video games definitely have some skill building or problem solving elements and these are the ones I enjoy the most. When I actually get a chance to play them
Hi DD! Really like your site. You might want to think about setting up a Contact tab up at the top to make it easy for people to contact you. I found this really helpful on our site. Also, I wanted to tweet your article but couldn’t find any twitter button…. This is another strategy that really helped our site grow. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the tips. I’m still really new and trying to figure it all out and this is some really good advice! I added the sharing icons but I’m still trying to find a good contact form plugin.
Hello DD,
Found you through the Yakezie Challengers forum and wanted to introduce myself, seeing as we are both new members! I liked your Dollar Disciple article and spending money without thought is something we probably all did in our teenage and college years, so don’t feel bad:)

Hi Monica, nice to meet a fellow challenge member!
Spending money comes very naturally to our culture, where the savings rate is often negative for a decade at a time. I try not to worry about it so much since I’ve changed my ways
Got me interested already!
